Help Us Tackle Hate Crime
We’re seeking two new Trustees with skills within the areas of finance, governance, fundraising and strategic planning to help guide and support our Board in making sound, informed decisions about our resources and long-term sustainability.

Helping to set, monitor and review annual budgets in line with strategy. - Risk management
Identifying risks and contributing to appropriate mitigation strategies. - Audit and compliance
Understanding annual reporting, audit processes, and legal responsibilities. - Income strategy
Supporting us to create diverse and sustainable income models, including grants, donations, and contracts. - Fundraising
Writing or leading successful tenders, contracts, or major grant bids.
Experience of being a CEO of comparable charity or leadership at a level in larger organisation is desirable. We welcome applications from those who can bring financial insight and confidence at Board level.
We Also Value
- A commitment to the values of anti-discrimination, equity, and justice.
- An understanding of charity governance and strategic oversight.
- Lived or professional experience related to hate crime, inclusion, or community resilience.
Diversity & Representation
SARI is committed to building a diverse and representative Board. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with protected characteristics currently underrepresented in our leadership, especially:
- Women
- LGBTQ+ people
- People of African, Somali, or white British or white minority communities
We also want to improve geographical representation, and especially welcome interest from people living or working in the County of Somerset.
Time Commitment
Being a trustee is a voluntary role, requiring attendance at approximately 9 evening Board meetings per year (held every six weeks). Each meeting is approximately 2 hours. Whilst we encourage our Board members to attend in person, our meetings are hybrid, and you can attend online when you can’t make it in person.
This is alongside occasional involvement in strategy and group sessions; for example, at away days, or as part of a Board subcommittee.
Support from us
A full induction tailored to Trustees’ requirements will be available. This includes an introduction to SARI for all new Trustees and the option of training and mentorship for first-time Trustees.
You will be reimbursed for travel and other expenses.
