Help us run rings around hate

100 Runners Against Hate is our new fundraising campaign aimed at helping us raise £25,000. This funding is crucial to ensure we can continue providing free and confidential hate crime services for victims and their families.

The campaign is open to anyone willing to support our work by raising money through a run or other sporting activity. It is inclusive of all ages and abilities – we only ask that you organise or participate in an activity as part of your fundraising. This could be your personal challenge or participation in events like the Bristol Half Marathon, a fun run, or a sponsored walk.

The funds you raise will contribute to supporting victims of hate crime and discrimination in the Avon and Somerset area. They will also aid in the preventive work we conduct with schools and marginalized communities. By choosing to fundraise for us, you’re taking a stand against hate crime and helping us build a safer and more inclusive community.

Don’t worry if you’ve never done this before – we’ve got all the information you need to find the right activity for you, along with some nifty tips on effective fundraising!

T-SHIRT AND RUNNING PACK

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our branded running jersey, created in collaboration with the running company, Scimitar. These jerseys will be available to all runners who officially join the 100 Runners Against Hate initiative by signing up below and commencing their fundraising efforts on our behalf. We will dispatch a comprehensive pack containing all the necessary information to kick-start your fundraising journey.

We encourage our runners to set ambitious fundraising targets, although it’s worth noting that the average amount raised per runner for charities like ours is in excess of £200. However, please don’t be discouraged by this figure, as every pound you raise contributes to the vital support we provide to victims of Hate Crime and Racism. Together, let’s work towards fostering inclusive communities where everyone feels valued and welcome.

don’t just stand there. get ready, set, go!

A great place to start is by downloading our fundraising guide. It’s got a range of useful information on how to fundraise for SARI and the difference you make with your fundraising.

Setting Up Your JustGiving Page

Once you have downloaded and read our Fundraising pack you are ready to set up your fundraising page. Go to our approved fundraising website, JustGiving. Select ‘Stand Against Racism & Inequality’ as your charity. Choose your fundraising target, page title and add other team members if you have them. Tell people why you’ve chosen to fundraise for us, and how their donations make a massive difference to victims of hate crime and discrimination.

Once your page is set up, email the link to your friends, family and colleagues, share the link on your Facebook page and tweet about what you’ve chosen to do. It’s a good idea to ask those likely to sponsor you with a larger amount first to encourage other sponsors to be just as generous with their gifts. Online sponsorship saves time and effort as you don’t have to collect donations in person. It also reduces our costs, meaning we can spend more money helping people.

OFFLINE DONATIONS

If you’ve created an online fundraising page it may be easier to donate to your own page to pay in any offline sponsorship. If not, please bank any cash donations and send in a personal cheque to cover the amount. Cheques should be made payable to Stand Against Racism & Inequality. Don’t forget to include a copy of your completed sponsorship form, so that we’re able to claim Gift Aid on the money you’ve raised. You can download the sponsorship form here. If you’ve filled up your first sponsorship form (go you!) just download and complete another and include that too.

frequently asked questions

A few answers to the questions we get asked a lot. If you’re still unsure about something, get in touch.

Can I fundraise with a group?

You can fundraise as either an individual or a group. If you’re doing it as a group you’ll only need one JustGiving page.

How much do I need to fundraise?

We appreciate everyone who gives their time to fundraise for us. There is no minimum amount you need to raise – it all makes a difference!

Do I need to run or can I fundraise another way?

You can fundraise any way you like – whatever works for you! Our fundraising pack is full of ideas on how to raise money.

How can I find a run to participate in?

There are a lot of different websites that you can use to find an event that suits you. We think www.findarace.com and www.timeoutdoors.com are among the best.

Can I organise my own activity?

Yes, you can organise your own event to fundraise for us. Some of our previous fundraisers have taken on unique challenges that they set themselves. Choose whatever you’re comfortable with, and stay safe while you’re doing it.

Does the activity need to take place in Avon & Somerset?

No, your activity can take place anywhere. Unfortunately at the moment we’re only able to support victims in Avon and Somerset.

What makes a good fundraising campaign?

Inside our fundraising pack there’s a range of information and advice on how to make your campaign successful, so make sure to take a look! Our most successful fundraisers start by approaching their personal networks first, such as friends, family and colleagues. They then focus on spreading the message on their own social media and online groups. This can be supported with coverage from local newspapers and media that are often happy to feature good news stories to promote the fantastic work they’re doing.
