This week, the Home Secretary said that the recording of non-crime hate incidents would be scrapped in its current form.
We know through experience that non-crime hate incidents can escalate. We also know that even if a hate incident doesn’t meet the crime threshold, it can still be incredibly distressing for the person targeted.
We have seen tragic cases where incidents have escalated into physical violence and even murder. They must be treated seriously. We urge those in power to ensure that non-crime hate incidents continue to be reported and recorded.
